Two Christian youths, Babar Masih and Sunil Masih, survived an alleged attempt on their lives after being severely beaten and stabbed during a disagreement outside a Christian family’s home.
Two Christian youths were admitted to hospital with serious injuries after a minor disagreement in the Chak JB South area of Faisalabad allegedly escalated into a violent knife attack.
According to information provided by the victims and their family, several men had regularly gathered outside Christian homes in the neighbourhood. Their presence caused concern and discomfort among local residents, particularly women and children.
On the day of the incident, some men were reportedly standing outside a Christian family’s home when Babar Masih and Sunil Masih asked them to move away. A verbal disagreement followed, which allegedly became violent.
The family said the assailants severely beat the two young men before attacking them with knives. Babar and Sunil suffered serious injuries but survived the attack. Both were taken to Civil Hospital Faisalabad for urgent medical treatment.
CLAAS-UK’s local partner team personally visited Babar and Sunil and met members of their family as part of a fact-finding visit. Team members saw the injuries sustained by the victims, listened to their account and gathered information about the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Following the visit, CLAAS-UK offered legal assistance through its local partner team to help the victims pursue their case, seek protection and obtain access to justice.
At the time of the visit, the family said that two days had passed without the registration of a First Information Report or the arrest of any suspect. The family has called on the police to register the case, arrest those responsible and conduct a prompt, impartial and transparent investigation.
CLAAS-UK is deeply concerned by the growing number of reported incidents in which relatively minor disagreements involving Christians escalate into severe violence. In some cases, Christian victims have allegedly been brutally beaten, seriously injured or threatened with death.
Such incidents create fear and insecurity among Christian families and raise serious questions about whether religious minorities receive timely police protection and equal access to justice.
CLAAS-UK has urged the authorities to investigate every possible motive behind the attack, including the family’s concerns about religious and social prejudice. It has also called for adequate protection for Babar, Sunil and their relatives while the case proceeds.
