A Christian nursing student has reportedly been abducted from her residence in Essa Nagri, Sabzal Road, in what her family describes as a case involving harassment, intimidation, and forced disappearance.
According to her mother, Maryam Saleem, her daughter Marilyn was enrolled in a nursing programme and was regularly attending hospital training as part of her academic requirements. During this period, a man identified as Mumtaz Ahmed allegedly began following her, later escalating to harassment, threats, and blackmail.
Maryam Saleem alleges that on the day of the incident, while Marilyn was engaged in prayer and observing a fast at home, the accused forcibly entered their house. “I was alone at home at the time,” Maryam said. “He threatened us, and despite our attempts to stop him, he forcefully took Marilyn with the help of his companions. I could not resist them.”
The family states that they immediately reported the incident to the relevant authorities. However, according to Maryam, no effective action has yet been taken to secure her daughter’s recovery. She further explained that Marilyn had already been living in fear due to previous threats directed at her and her siblings.
Since the reported abduction, Marilyn remains missing, and her whereabouts are unknown.
The case has renewed concerns among minority communities, who say incidents of kidnapping and alleged forced conversions continue to affect vulnerable Christian and Hindu families. Community representatives argue that despite repeated acknowledgments of the issue, stronger legislative safeguards and more decisive enforcement measures are urgently needed.
Maryam Saleem has appealed to senior government officials and law enforcement agencies for immediate intervention, protection for her family, and the safe return of her daughter.
