Left for Work, Never Returned: Charity Fights for Missing Christian Mother of Four

Categories:

A deeply impoverished Christian family is living through unimaginable anguish after Shama Akram, a 38-year-old mother of four, disappeared after leaving home to collect her identity card from her employer. Weeks later, her whereabouts remain unknown, while her husband and children cling to hope amid fear and uncertainty.

Shama belonged to an extremely marginalized Christian family. Her husband, Akram Masih, survives on irregular daily wages, barely enough to feed the family. Crushed by poverty, Shama took work as a domestic helper in Bahria Town, where she also cared for an elderly woman. Every rupee she earned went toward her children’s food, schooling, and survival.

According to the family, Shama’s ordeal worsened behind closed doors. She allegedly faced repeated sexual harassment by her Muslim employer. When she resisted and threatened to inform his wife, the employer reportedly retaliated by accusing her of stealing a large sum of money. Shama was allegedly illegally confined for two days, while her terrified family was pressured into paying extortion money for her release. Even after this, her CNIC was unlawfully withheld, leaving her vulnerable and controlled.

On 29 December 2025, Shama was called again by the employer to collect her CNIC. She left home—and never returned.

When Akram Masih approached the police, he was repeatedly turned away and sent from one police station to another, as authorities refused to register a missing-person report. Only after urgent intervention by our team was an FIR finally registered.

Shama Akram remains missing. Her children continue to wait for their mother, while her husband fears the worst—abduction, sexual violence, human trafficking, or worse. Despite ongoing police inaction, our partners remain in constant contact with the family, providing free legal aid and humanitarian support, and pursuing justice with determination.

Supporters are urged to pray, raise awareness, and stand with vulnerable Christian families as this urgent search continues.
