Christian Youth Dies After Brutal Attack in Vehari; Police and Rescue Services Accused of Negligence

Vehari, Punjab — A 28-year-old Christian man, Asif Raza, succumbed to his injuries on 24 September 2025 at Nishtar Hospital, Multan, following a brutal assault.

According to police reports, Asif was attacked on the evening of 23 September when a group of men — identified as Azaan, Wahab, Hanan, and three unidentified accomplices — struck him repeatedly with bricks, leaving him critically injured. A case has been registered at Thana Danewal Police Station, Vehari.

Eyewitnesses allege that despite repeated calls, police helpline 15 failed to respond at the scene, and Rescue 1122 also did not provide timely assistance. Due to this lack of emergency intervention, Asif’s condition deteriorated rapidly, forcing locals to shift him to Multan in critical condition, where he later died.

The shocking incident highlights not only the rising tide of violence in society but also raises serious questions about the apparent negligence of law enforcement and emergency services.

Civil society members and human rights activists have strongly condemned the attack, demanding the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and accountability for officials who failed to act. They stress that only swift justice and strict action against negligent authorities can help prevent such tragedies in the future and deliver justice to the victim’s family.
