In a horrific act of violence, a Christian woman, Shabana Bibi, was brutally shot and killed, while her teenage daughter, Misbah, was critically injured in a targeted attack in Gujranwala. The incident took place on the evening of January 6, as the mother and daughter were returning home from work in Jalil Town on a motorbike driven by their nephew, Danish.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the ambush occurred around 8:30 PM near the Magnolia Park Bridge. Two unidentified gunmen on a motorbike intercepted them and opened fire without warning. Shabana was killed on the spot, while Misbah, struck by a bullet in the back, was rushed to Civil Hospital Gujranwala in critical condition.

Karamat Masih, Shabana’s heartbroken husband, filed the FIR at Saddar Police Station. He revealed that his wife and daughter worked as domestic helpers to sustain the family, as he himself is a laborer. Struggling with grief, he pleaded for swift justice.

Police have registered the case under Sections 302 (punishment for murder), 324 (attempt to murder), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code. Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the case, though the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

The killing has sparked outrage within the Christian community, intensifying concerns over the safety of religious minorities in Pakistan. Human rights organizations and community leaders have strongly condemned the attack, urging authorities to take immediate action against the perpetrators.

This tragic event underscores the pressing need for stronger protections for vulnerable communities facing targeted violence.
